Things is all the other stuff that kayakers and canoeist need or like to take with them on there adventures in the great outdoors. Kayaksnthings is a specialist store providing some these things from paddles, safety gear, clothing, water proofing gear, and the list can go on. The amount and type of equipment you will need depends on what type of paddling you are doing, where you are going and for how long. As an example if you are just going to the lake or river with the family for a couple hours, you are going for an overnight camp down a river, you are leading a trip down through Grade 4 rapids, You are island hoping along the coast for a couple days and everything in between. The equipment also varies depending on what weather conditions you are going to encounter.

Basic Kayak Equipment

  • Paddle and a spare per group
  • PFD (Personal floatation device)
  • Spray Skirt
  • Dry Bags for clothes and organizing other equpment
  • Spare deck bungee cord
  • Signalling Device, Mirror, whistle or V Sheet
  • Tow line or Throw bag
  • Paddle Leash
  • Paddle Float
  • Float tubes
  • Sea Anchor
  • Bailer or Bilge pump
  • Sponges

Personal Gear

  • Maps in a water proof sleeve
  • Compass
  • GPS
  • Matches or lighter in waterproof container
  • Knife or multi-tool
  • UHF Radio
  • Mobile phone
  • Watch
  • Headlamp or touch plus extra batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Lip balm
  • Water bottle or bladder
  • Water treating equipment
  • Toiletries including paper
  • Necessary food plus emergency extra
  • Beverages and other drinks.

Clothing

  • Dry suit or top
  • Paddling gloves or pogies
  • Neoprene footwear
  • Sandals
  • Helmet
  • Sun-shielding hat
  • Wool/synthetic cap or balaclava
  • Moisture-wicking underwear
  • Rashguard
  • Swim clothing preferably stinger suit
  • Shorts
  • Sun safe long sleeved shirt
  • Spray jacket or rain coat
  • Synthetic vest or jacket (for insulation)
  • Synthetic gloves or mittens

 

Kayaksnthings doesn’t carry all this gear, this is more of a suggestion list of things you should consider to carry. You don’t need all this gear for every trip.
