Social Paddles

We arrange regular social paddles where a group of us go out for a couple hours to paddle our favourite spots. These include the Newry Island group, around Cape Hillsborough, Shoal Point, Slade Point, The Harbour, Flat Top and Round Top Islands and others further south. Other paddles are up the valley on flat water trips in the Pioneer River or on one of the dams.  You can bring along your own kayak or sit on top, or arrange to have a paddle of one of the demo Mirage or Stellar kayaks Kayaksnthings has available. We usually go out for 2 – 4 hours on a Sunday morning and you can bring some snacks to have with us on a beach. You can have a chat to our regular experience paddlers, they are always willing to pass on their knowledge. Check out the list below or on the Face Book Page. If you use Face Book, please like our page, we are regularly posting new and interesting things about all sorts of kayaking subjects.

Still on the social note, you can also sign up for the Kayaksnthings Newsletter. Just click on the sign up form at the top of the right hand column and fill in your first name and email address. It is that easy.

Future Trips

Sunday Social Paddle 14th January 2018
This is a more challenging trip, but if the weather does turn, we can alter the course. I have been wanting to do a couple more trips to the south of Mackay and although the coastline may not be as spectacular, it is still interesting with new things to see. The paddle will begin at a little beach at Half Tide and then head out around a little island which looks like it may be privately owned so we may not be able to land there. Then proceed a bit further south for a smoko break on a beach and then heading back to Half Tide. I haven’t done this paddle before, so looking forward to checking it out. This is the first of 3 paddles I would like to do in this area over the next 6 months each one a little more challenging so if you want to check out this area south of Mackay, this will be a great opportunity. We will meet just south of the city gates in front of the Caltex Servo at 7:00am. then proceed in a convoy so that everyone arrives at the same place. We may even be able to car pool if you want.
Meeting at: 7:00am Sunday 14/01/2018.
Should arrive to start paddle at Half Tide about 7:45pm.
Paddle distance: 14kms
High Tide: 9:36am – 5.5M
Wind: 19km/hr Northerly which means we may have a head wind on the way back.
I would recommend sea kayaks for this paddle or sea worthy sit on tops and skis. If you want to hire a sea kayak or ski I have some available. Bring the usual things for a paddle of this kind, PFD, sun protection, foot wear, water and food for 3 – 4 hours.
